Question on Today’s Impeachment Show

As much as I’ve been able to read, today’s impeachment is clearly not an impeachment in any real sense of the word. Impeachment is by definition a political act.

My question is then simple. Does that by default make this week’s circus a criminal trial? With no judge and no “jury of your peers”? Constitutional ex post facto and bill of attainder prohibitions? Etc.

If so, then Trump is under no obligation to respond at all and could just punt to the courts on appeal on the face of it?

Or show up with trial lawyers (not Constitutional scholars) and make a public shit show of the whole thing?

Curious minds and stuff.

I’ve got no interest in it, but it seems to me that when Roberts told the Senate to piss off, the whole thing lost whatever credibility it might have otherwise had.

The D’s will make a lot of noise about this, and the 20% of the population that represents their hard-core base will enjoy a huge dopamine rush, but the rest of the country is going to look at this as a complete waste of time.

You don’t think a Democratic member of the Senate should preside over the show trial?

I’m just wondering why Bozo the clown isn’t available.
